Laser tattoo and PMU removal complications: why do they happen?
Why laser tattoo and PMU removal can injure skin: bleeding in a session or second-degree burn blisters the next day are not normal but a specialist's error.

I think some of you have lost your appetite. And this is only the tip of the iceberg, only what has been captured in photos and shown. The part below the surface is the attitude of "well, it happens, it did not work out, it is a laser, what did you expect". There are even clients who have what I call Stockholm syndrome. They justify their unqualified artists: he was only learning, it is a laser, it is a tattoo, it just did not work out for him.
In fact, I do not even use the phrase "unlucky removal".
Luck has nothing to do with it; it is simply unprofessional and wrong. There are laws, there are rules and criteria to guide your work, and a great many people know them.
And those who do not know them for some reason decide they can experiment on people.
So, once again, I want to raise this topic and draw attention to the problem. Do not experiment on people! Do not put either your clients or yourself at risk. Skin injuries like these can lead to inspections and lawsuits!
I think I have managed to show you how important and responsible the procedure of laser tattoo removal is. My collection of traumatic tattoo and PMU removal images is constantly growing. I often find them myself, people send them to me, consult me and ask for my advice.
By the way, send me interesting and difficult things: what you do not understand, problems with difficult clients, cases. I will try to help you, consult you and give you qualified advice. As a reminder, I hold a PhD in medicine and I am a surgeon, dermatologist and cosmetologist. So questions on difficult topics interest me too!
What a pulse does to a pigment particle
Press “Pulse” a few times.
Pigment sits in the dermis as clusters of particles. The body cannot clear them on its own: they are too large.
A simplified scheme: macrophages carry away small fragments, large ones stay and are recaptured by cells — this is why removal takes several sessions.
Frequently asked questions
Is bleeding during laser tattoo removal normal?
No. There should be no bleeding during the procedure. If there is, you must stop and think about what you are doing wrong.
Is a second-degree burn after laser tattoo removal normal?
No. If the client leaves with no blood or damage but a day or two later the tattoo is covered in blisters and burns, something went wrong: a second-degree burn cannot be normal.
Why are tattoo removal lasers hazard class 4?
Tattoo removal lasers belong to hazard class 4, the highest hazard class for laser devices in Russia: they can cause skin burns, eye damage and damage to the body's surface tissues. That is why they have a key, an emergency stop button and other safeguards against accidental firing.
