Can laser tattoo or PMU removal be sped up?
How long does laser tattoo removal take? Even a small tattoo takes 1.5–2 years to clear, and there is still no proven way to speed up pigment clearance.
At a consultation, there is a 99.9% chance the patient will ask how long it will take to remove the tattoo with a laser. Everyone is interested in time. This is a fact proven in practice.
You can wriggle any way you like and try to soften the blow, but the answer will be the same: “Removing a tattoo takes a long time.”
Removing even a small tattoo takes 1.5–2 years! Naturally, when you name timescales like that, many clients lose their enthusiasm.
Can’t the removal process be sped up somehow?
A tattoo can be done in 20–30 minutes, but removing it will take more than a year. That’s not fair! People want it faster!
Where there is demand for fast tattoo removal, there is supply. Armchair experts and chat regulars actively promote their methods that speed up the removal process. Supposedly speed it up.
For example, I have come across recommendations like these:
SHOCK!
To make a tattoo disappear in a month, you need to rub it with… ointments! And also apply badyaga (freshwater sponge powder), aloe and sea buckthorn oil!
P.S.
This is not a guide to action! None of these methods has proven effective.
The list of life hacks could go on forever. Only their benefit is zero.
There is no proven method that speeds up the elimination of pigment from the skin after laser treatment.
In the body, the removal of artificial pigment is influenced by a great many factors. That makes it hard for us to establish a pattern or rule out chance when studying such methods.
It’s worth noting that short-term use of any product won’t give a noticeable result. And following recommendations on a regular basis can be costly for the patient + it is hard for the specialist to monitor!
So there’s no “magic pill”?
No. Theoretically, an active lifestyle and improved blood flow could increase the rate at which pigment is eliminated from the skin. Or they might not. Or they might have a tiny effect, comparable to statistical error.
I’ll say it again: at present there are no proven, effective methods of fast laser tattoo removal!
Be sceptical even of recommendations from so-called “experts”. They may turn out to be a subjective, unsupported opinion.
